Crackdown on Burmese protests

The Burmese government's forceful repression Sept. 27, 2007 ended weeks of street protests. FRANCE 24's correspondents were in Burma during and after the crackdown.
After 47 days of saffron demonstrations, the military junta violently brought pro-democracy movements in Burma to a halt on Sept. 27, 2007. General Than Shwe says he is ready to negotiate with opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi - a possible breakthrough.... But according to diplomats, far more people died in the crackdown than the regime admits. After spending eight days undercover in Rangoon, our correspondent in Burma reports on night arrests and the use of torture.
