Rugby Sevens tournament in Hong Kong
Hong Kong's biggest sports event of the year, the Rugby Sevens tournament, has attracted sports fans from around the world for over three decades.
It’s the most popular event of the year in Hong Kong. The Rugby Sevens tournament attracts, from Mar. 28 to 30, visitors and sports fans from all over the world. Twenty four national teams compete in Hong Kong Stadium over three days.
The French team is here too. Its coach, Thierry Janezcek, says the Hong Kong tournament is a reference in the rugby world: “It’s famous all over the world. It’s the greatest and the oldest, a legendary tournament in the temple of rugby sevens”.
Rugby sevens is derived from the classic 15-player game and takes place over much shorter 20-minute games. The French players are also rugby 15 players. The competition gives them the opportunity to meet some of the best players in the world. When they faced Tonga on Friday Mar. 28, they played in front of a cheerful, multinational crowd of 40 000.
