As France prepares to assume the presidency of the European Union on July 1, 2008, FRANCE 24 presents a weekly report focusing on how the union influences the daily lives of Europeans. 'Euro Zooming' profiles European citizens, their questions and the problems they face.
‘Eurozooming’ airs on Mondays in ‘The Week in Europe,’ hosted by Caroline de Camaret at 18h10 Paris time (GMT+2), then at 21h26. You can find it online Tuesday mornings.
The reality of Eurocorps not yet fulfilled
The Eurocorps is to become a 60,000-man-strong European rapid intervention force. But with only 200 million euro budget last year and the United Kingdom not showing any support, its full realisation seems far off.
Danes, champions for clean water
European officials have hailed Danish water as an example to follow in terms of purity, as EU institutions consider copying Danish legislation, including a tax on pesticide use. Farmers, however, are less impressed.
Racism on the rise at gypsy camp
Last May, a crowd of angry Italians set a gypsy camp on fire in the outskirts of Naples. There are about twenty gypsy camps presently situationed in Rome's suburbs. Racism is an increasingly serious problem in Italy.
