Alain Bernard headed to Beijing

100-metres world record holder Alain Bernard secured his ticket to the Summer Olympics after winning the French championship in that race on Thursday. Times clocked during the event keep Bernard and the French relay's medal hopes alive.

DUNKIRK - World record holder Alain Bernard of France secured an Olympic berth in the 100 metres freestyle at the French championships on Thursday.

 

Bernard won the final in 47.82 seconds, just outside the world record of 47.50 he set at the European championships in Eindhoven on March 22, to qualify for the Beijing Games.

 

The Olympics run from Aug. 8-24.
