Helicopter crashes into Black Sea, killing 19

The helicopter crashed after hitting part of an offshore platform operated by state energy company Naftogaz, leaving just one survivor.

 

KIEV - A Ukrainian helicopter crashed in the Black Sea on Monday killing 19 people, the state energy company Naftogaz said.

 

One person on board survived the crash, which occurred when the helicopter hit part of an offshore platform operated by Naftogaz, a company spokesman said.

 

"An Mi-8 helicopter with 20 people on board clipped the Tavrida platform with its tail rotor, and as a result 19 people died and one survived," spokesman Ilya Savin said.

 

The helicopter belonged to Naftogaz.
