Garrone's 'Gomorrah' — a punch in the face

Text by FRANCE 24

Latest update : 2009-01-05

Italian director Matteo Garrone is in the running for the Palme d’Or for the first time. “Gomorrah”, his adaptation of Roberto Saviano’s breathtaking novel about Naples’ mafia, is making a lot of noise at Cannes.

Karim Zejjari interviewed Matteo Garrone ahead of the official competition screening of "Gomorrah". The film is an adaptation of Roberto Saviano's best seller bearing the same name. With a journalistic style, the Italian director depicts a criminal network, the Camorra, which holds all of Naples in its grip. Watch excerpts from the film, and an interview with the director.

Also on today's show Elizabeth Tchoungui speaks to actress Sylvie Testud about her role in Diane Kurys’ "Sagan," based on the life of the celebrated French writer Françoise Sagan.

And finally… "Cannes by night"… this time on board a yacht for a “business cocktail.”
