Ban Ki-moon calls for 'revitalisation' of agriculture

Revitilise indeed!

Ban is absolutely right. We do need to revitilise agriculture to improve food security. More investment must be channeled towards improving the production capacities in poorer countries like those in Africa, but also, governments must make agriculture a more attractive business investment - not necessarily through direct subsidies - but by better access to cheaper finance and tax breaks etc. In Africa, we need to move our collective mindset away from "subsistence" to "commercial - large scale" agriculture. As for Mugabes presence at the summit: considering that he has presided over the decline of his own nations agricultural sector and compromised Zimbabwes food security, his sudden concern with the World crisis can described as "dodgy" at its very best.
