Real heroine

Ingrid's story is heroic. Please write more about her and print photos so we can see and print copies to be reminded of her heroism daily.

Congratulations

I am so proud of Ingrid Betacourt, she has the strength of Policarpa Salavarrieta a martir that suffered just like Ingrid for a better Colombia, my heart and admiration goes out to her and her family.
Her suffering and patience is admirable, she has become an icon of strenght for future generations, and her ideals will prevail.

Ingrid Betancourt, grace a Dieu

I have been riveted by this story. Ms. Betancourt and her children have exhibited so much grace and courage and honesty, I cannot take my eyes off of them. I am so grateful for their release, grateful to France24 for showing this story to American viewers. We need to see this. This is what a leader looks like.

Welcome

I was in France for two days when i heard the news you were finally free.
My time in France was to take a exam and it was about the humans right in the world and i've been talking about you and your unbelievable strength. No one could support to live 7 years in a jungle, far from her/his family.Your were and are a fabulous symbol for our country and every hostages around the world can now hear about your story and they wont give up to believe that something is possible even after 7 years.
i would like to say to you how i'm glad to see you free and how i'm proud of you and France and all French are proud of you and your fight.

Melanie

Yesterday was one of the most beautiful day in my life..I met Melanie 4 years ago during an italian tv show where I was working..I passed an entire day listened to her words full of wisdom and courage for the life..I'll never forget..never.That's why I wish to her, to Ingrid and Lorenzo the opportunity to have back what they lost during those years...and to live it on the top with Mama..I love you all...

I am so delighted you are free now, Ingrid

I have been smiling from ear to ear since hearing of Ingrid Betancourt's rescue. Thanks goodness for Google news alerts and France24 have supplied regular updates. The UK press has barely mentioned her capture, imprisonment or release but I have thought about her, daily, since watching a 2006 documentary, ‘The Kidnapping of Ingrid Betancourt’ by Victoria Bruce and Karin Hayes shown on More4. I bought and read Ingrid's book, 'Until Death Do Us Part: My Struggle to Reclaim Colombia' and found her strength and determination inspiring. I am so delighted you are free now, Ingrid, and I wish you many long and happy years with your family.

A military man's mission

Every soldier I know stands in awe and respect of the Columbian Army today. To successful rescue hostages from within a rebel stronghold, surrounded by hostile forces, and to do so without firing a shot and keeping all of your forces safe is the goal of every professional military man. So many have a Rambo-view of Special Forces and Intelligence operatives, but this operation shows the true feelings of so many who are on the front lines--do no harm, do not excess harm, unless absolutely necessary. Bravo to all who took part, and kudos to those who came up with this daring plan.

Rescue, not liberation

Why is it that the media continues to call it "liberation" it should be called a RESCUE, for calling it anything else, implies that somehow the terrorists of the FARC where "partners" on this endeavor. These 15 people were rescued by the Colombian goverment, and its armed forces! My prayers for all fifteen of them, for their families who endured so much, for the ones that are still under torture in the hands of those terrorists, and for President Uribe, for the courage to go through with a plan that could have easily cost him his political future.
I am not Colombian, but I am proud nevertheless.

Wonderful News

Fantastic. Well done to all.

god's power

we are all happy that ingrid and all the other hostages are finally free by god's will and the help of others.may that all the hatred and war of this world end as such one day....wish her luck and a happy life now with her family.

God is one

This is the evidence that when you believe, everything begins possible. Ingrid is now an exemple for everybody, she remind me Natasha Kampush...Miracles exist...never give up!

Thank you President Uribe

With terorist you do not negotiare. They understand only one language: power!
Lets praise the Colomboian Army and lets pray that another french hostage, Gilad Shalit, will be rescue by the Israeli army from the hands of the Hamas in Gaza.349

love to you and your family

Thank you France 24 - for the last 4 years I have been on your site and this is a story that I have followed - thank you - I watched the plane arriving and was able to see the wonderful homecoming - I called my co-workers to see this wonderful event and if was not for France 14 I would not have experienced it - thank you.

No concessions to terrorists

The Colombian President, Alvaro Uribe, has consistently refused to talk with or offer any concessions to the terrorist FARC. Whilst Betancourt had been a critic and a political opponent of Uribe prior to her captivity, tonight Uribe stands vindicated in his tough stance in the face of terrorism. Democrats CAN triumph without recourse to appeasement.

The Soviet-funded FARC have been responsible for kidnappings and killings throughout Colombia since the 1960's. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Farc has also been responsible for much of the drugs trade on British and European streets. It is to be hoped that the terrorist FARC will soon be smashed once and for all.

Congratulations

.... to Betancourt, the other released hostages, and their families. Congratuliations also to Colombia's President Alvaro Uribe, who has brought the FARC gangsters to their knees. Finally and most importantly, congratuations to all Colombians who, step by step, are getting their country back.

Welcome Ingrid

this is a very important news for all colombians who have indirectly suffer her captivity. Ingrid you are such a strong women you are a symbol of womens oppression. Thank you for being so strong showing the world how important is to remain clear in your dreams and desires.. You are my hero.

not only Ingrid

For your information Ingrid B. is not the only hostage, there are more than 700, and It was not Ingrid + 3 Americans the rescues, also 11 COLOMBIANS, yes, COLOMBIANS!!!! in total was 15!!!!! the most of the hostages are Colombian. Now for the French the FARC problem is finished because Ingrid is free, typical French, domage!!!! Bravo por el Presidente Uribe!!!!

On the rescue of Ingrid Betancourt

I wonder why in your television English channel the _rescue_ of Betancourt _from_ the FARC _by_ Colombian troops was announced as her "release" or as being "freed by the FARC." How strange.

Free!!!!!!!!!!!

We ve been for so long! Second of july is a wonderful day!
