AFP News Briefs ListPowell and Bolt slated to meet at DN Gala
Jamaican sprint starts Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell are set to clash in the 100m at the DN Gala meeting in Stockholm, meet director Rajne Soderberg said Friday.
Bolt's manager Ricky Simms confirmed the 100m world record-holder's participation in the event at the July 22 meeting.
"Yes, Usain is running the 100m at the DN Gala in Stockholm," he said.
Simms also confirmed that Bolt would run the 200m at meetings in Athens and London.
Meanwhile, Powell's manager Paul Doyle said Powell would run the 100m in Sweden, but again tried to downplay the showdown aspect.
"We didn't care one way or another," Doyle said when asked if he knew Bolt was entered. "We are going to Stockholm to run against whosoever shows up.
Bolt, who considers himself a 200m specialist, electrified the athletics world when he clocked 9.72sec on May 30 to eclipse Powell's previous 100m world record of 9.74.
The two have met just once in the 100m, when Bolt clocked 9.85 to beat Powell (9.97) at the Jamaican Olympic trials.
