Hoelzer breaks 200m backstroke world record

Margaret Hoelzer broke the women's 200m backstroke world record at the US Olympic swimming trials with a time of 2min 06.09sec

Margaret Hoelzer broke the women's 200m backstroke world record here Saturday at the US Olympic swimming trials, touching in 2min 06.09sec

Hoelzer, the reigning world champion, broke the previous world record of 2:06.39 set by Zimbabwe's Kirsty Coventry at Columbia, Missouri, on February 16.

Elizabeth Beisel, 15, was second in 2:06.92, earning her second berth in the Beijing Games after finishing second in the 400m individual medley.

Hoelzer improved on her previous personal best of 2:07.16.

Hoelzer also booked her second Beijing berth, after finishing runner-up to Natalie Coughlin in the 100m backstroke.ol
