India and China 'not ready' for G8 climate goal
India and China have said they are not yet ready to commit to the "vision" of a 50% target cut in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 set by G8 leaders. The 3-day summit concluded Wednesday on an optimistic note.

China and India are not ready to agree to a goal set by the Group of Eight industrial nations to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases by 50 percent by 2050, a French presidential aide said on Wednesday.

 
But the aide said the two fast-growing Asian economies, which together account for 25 percent of the emissions that scientists say are contributing to global warming, would be willing to take action later.
