AFP News Briefs ListSwedish museum says Lichtenstein, Warhol works nabbed
Thieves broke into a Swedish art museum early Friday and made off with several works by American icons Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol worth some 320,000 euros (503,000 dollars), the museum said.
The robbers broke into the Lasse Aaberg Museum, located in Baalsta some 50 kilometres (31 miles) northwest of Stockholm, around 2:00 am (0000 GMT).
They "smashed down the door and stole three works by Roy Lichtenstein and two by Andy Warhol," museum official Carina Aaberg told AFP.
The Lichtenstein works were "Crak!", "Sweet dreams baby" and "Dagwood". The Warhol pieces were "Superman" and "Mickey Mouse", she said.
A Walt Disney poster, "The New Spirit", was also stolen.
The Lasse Aaberg Museum, named after the founder who is a Swedish actor and artist, houses a large collection of modern art, in particular cartoons and caricatures.
