The Pentagon announced Monday that three more detainees have been transferred from its "war on terror" detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
One of the detainees was sent back to Afghanistan, another to United Arab Emirates, and the third to Qatar, it said in a statement.
"The transfer is a demonstration of the United States' desire not to hold detainees any longer than necessary," it said.
More than 65 detainees have been identified for transfer and release, but remain at Guantanamo while the State Department tries to get their home countries or third countries to take custody of them.
Currently, there are about 265 detainees at Guantanamo, the Pentagon said.
