Musharraf won't resign, says spokesman
As a committee of coalition members finalises a charge sheet against Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf that could lead to an impeachment, Musharraf's spokesman said there was "no reason" for him to resign.

Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf will not stand down despite facing impeachment by the coalition government, his spokesman said Monday.

"There is no reason that he should resign. Everything they are saying is false, so why should he resign?" Musharraf's spokesman Rashid Qureshi told AFP.

It was the first comment from the presidential camp since the coalition announced on Thursday that it would launch impeachment proceedings against the former general.

A committee of coalition members was putting the final touches to a charge sheet against Musharraf on Monday, while parliament was due to meet to discuss the issue.
