France wins first gold at Beijing Olympics
Frenchman Steeve Guénot won an Olympic gold medal in men's 66kg greco-roman wrestling on Wednesday. It was France's first gold medal at the Beijing Olympics.
BEIJING, Aug 13 (Reuters) - Steeve Guenot of France won the
gold medal in men's 66kg greco-roman wrestling at the Beijing
Olympics on Wednesday, beating Kanatbek Begaliev of Kyrgystan
3-1.

It was the first gold for France in greco-roman since the
1924 Olympics in Paris.
Begaliev took the silver medal, while Armen Vardanyan of
Ukraine and Darkhan Bayakhmetov of Kazakhstan each won a
bronze.
Guenot's older brother, Cristophe, was still in competition
for a bronze in the 74kg class.
