US President George W. Bush on Thursday freed up to 5.75 million dollars in aid to help Georgia meet "unexpected and urgent refugee and migration needs" stemming from the conflict with Russia, the White House said.
In a memorandum for US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Bush said the monies aimed to meet "the humanitarian needs of conflict victims and those displaced by recent violence in Georgia."
"It is important to the national interest to furnish assistance under the Act, in an amount not to exceed 5.75 million from the United States Emergency Refugee and Migration Assistance Fund, for the purpose of meeting unexpected and urgent refugee and migration needs," said Bush.
