Russia tests EU's resolve
The 27 members of the EU are gathering today in Brussels to decide on a common reaction to Russia's offensive diplomacy. Can a consensus be reach within the EU, and what impact can the EU have on Russia?

Today, European leaders will decide what to do about Russia, and how to do it. The EU's 27 member states gather in Brussels today for an emergency meeting on the Russia-Georgia conflict.

Over the last three weeks, Russia has deployed troops on Georgian territory, signed a European peace deal which it then ignored, and it recognized the independence of Georgia's separatist regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Moscow has trampled the sovereignty and territorial integrity of its former soviet neighbour.

The United States, NATO and the UN are powerless to do anything about it. Today, Moscow's resolve puts European unity to the test, as the EU reexamines its relations with Russia.

To navigate through this complicated topic, Sabine FISCHER a Research fellow, at European Union Institute for Security Studies has joined Cyril Vanier on the France 24 set.
