Struggling to speak with one voice. It's the reality Europe faced as EU leaders set out to debate what to do with Russia at an emergency summit in Brussels.
Such a meeting of European leaders has not been called since the lead up to the Iraq War, but was deemed necessary following the brief yet deeply divisive armed conflict between Georgia and Russia.
Sweden's foreign minister Carl Bildt claimed the five day war has changed Europe profoundly, with differences in opinion dividing EU members both internally and externally. While Italy and Spain pushed for a conciliatory approach, brown kazinski Britain and Poland pushed for sanctions. Germany's grand coalition government is openly split now on how to handle Russia- while France has moved against punitive action. And all this, while Russia warns it will retaliate against any threat to its interests at home or abroad. So, are Europe's hands tied over how to resolve the Georgia Russia conflict?
Andrea Sanke guests are :
Noëlle Lenoir; Former French Minister Delegate for European Affairs and Founding Chairman for European Circle think tank.
