Nobuo Tanaka, Exec. Dir., International Energy Agency
France 24's Raphaël Kahane discusses the challenges of European energy dependence and long-term strategy with Nobuo Tanaka, head of the International Energy Agency (IEA).

How to reduce the European dependence on foreign energy supplies ? This question has been at the heart of the U.S. Presidential campaign. It is now the burning question in Europe as well.

The conflict between Russia and Georgia has put energy security back on the continent's agenda. As European Union countries put it at a summit earlier this week, recent events illustrate the need for Europe to diversify its energy supplies away from Russia.

And for the first time this week, the International Energy Agency has reviewed the energy policies of the European Union.

Nabua Tanaka is the Executive Director of this organization which acts as energy policy advisor for 27 governments of the OECD. He is live from Brussels, where he unveiled this European Energy Review.
