Russian tennis pro Nikolay Davydenko has been cleared by the ATP of suspicion of corruption.

Davydenko's forfeit of a match against Argentina's Martin Vassallo-Arguello at Sopot in Poland in 2007 sparked a huge controversy after it was revealed that large sums of money were being bet on the match.

On Friday the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) which runs the men's game said an investigation showed that both Davydenko and Vassallo-Arguello were innocent of any wrongdoing.

"The ATP has now exhausted all avenues of enquiry and the investigation is now concluded," said a statement.

"A fundamental role of the ATP is to ensure that men's professional tennis continues to be free of corruption.

"For this reason, the ATP instigated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the match in Sopot.

"ATP can confirm that it has concluded its investigation and found no evidence of a violation of its rules by either Mr Arguello or Mr Davydenko or anyone else associated with the match."

A major internet site suspended all bets after Davydenko'a forfeit, while his Argentine opponent was leading 2-6, 6-3, 2-1, because the sums of money being placed were suspiciously large.
