Singapore revs up as Formula One hits town
Best known as the financial hub of South East Asia, Singapore's heart will be beating to a different rhythm at the weekend - the frenzied rhythm of an inaugural night-time Formula One Grand Prix motor race. But was it worth the cost?

Singapore is probably best known as the financial hub of South East Asia…but for three days during the last weekend of September the economic heart of this island-state will be beating to a different rhythm – the frenzied rhythm of a Formula One Grand Prix motor race. It’s the first time this super-charged international event is taking place in Singapore.

And it’s the first time in the world that it’s being held at night, so there’s plenty of excitement here.  The organizers have been working on the technical infrastructure for the past year and a half, as well as gearing up all the support services for a flood of visitors.

It’s a huge project, so the question is: what’s in it for Singapore? Is it worth the effort, and the cost?
