The vice presidential face-off triggered a passionate debate among our readers. Many of you are sarcastic about Palin's political abilities. Some complain about Biden's déjà-vu impression. Others think there was no real debate.

FRANCE 24’s special team of Observers weigh in on the Palin v. Biden debate. Click here to read their verdicts.

Alan M. Solinger, MD USA/Oakland:

'Senator Biden was the professional, organised speaker who could answer "on his feet" vs. read from a script or from memorised phrases. Mrs Palin's folksy act was ridiculous and contrived. To think that this poor amateur is being foisted on the public as a representative of our best leadership is stupid on the part of the US Republican party. Senator Biden has earned the respect of the public and deserves to be on a winning ticket with a true American idol - Senator Obama.'

Anonymous:

'Candidate Palin was terrible from the start to the finish. She managed not to ridicule herself but she avoided questions and her winking was out of place. She didn't sound competent or intelligent at all'.

'Governor Palin took charge during this debate. She dominated the foreign policy arguments where Sen. Biden was forgetful of the names of a few people and not confident with his own answers. They both brought in their respective experience and gave good answers so the people know where they stand.

Governor Palin demonstrates that she is going to "shake things up" in Washington whereas Sen. Biden will only continue to do what the Democrats tell him. He does not show individual conviction on the issues.'

Martha M. Williams USA/Sacramento:

'She was a good candidate until she started talking. She's against women's rights, environmental issues and supports the war in Iraq.'

Diane Stevens Houston, TX, USA:

'Palin knocked it out of the ballpark. A clear win by Palin.'

'I am petrified at the mere thought that Sarah Palin could become VP of the country and possibly (God forbid) President. Imagine that! The woman cannot provide a direct answer to a question (witness last night's debate when she did what she does best - provide folksy musings which had little or no bearing on the questions Gwen Ifill asked). Perky can only get you so far. With all due respect, I don't think she has the intellectual depth to deal with the myriad complex issues one would expect a vice president of this country to have. I see more moose hunting and hockey mom-ing in her future.'

Edward A. San Diego:

'After eight years of George Bush, never thought any candidate would be less qualified. Her one big advantage, she was able to wink. Is this a potential world leader or beauty queen contestant?'

'How can Palin win if she doesn't know the names of the foreign leaders and she continued to talk about energy when clearly been asked another question. Why can't she just answer the question? Or at least be honest with the American people (just say I don't know the answer well enough to answer the question). The Minnesota accent is not working for me when she is clearly from Alaska. I don't understand why she is using, "Joe Six-pack," "Soccer Moms," and all the other metaphors. Just talk straight to the American people like Senator Joe Biden (the only metaphor he used was, "The bridge to nowhere." In conclusion I would also like to know why McCain continues to choose beauty queens all the time. Why can't a woman in his life be normal? His ex-wife was a beauty queen, his current wife was a beauty queen and now he chooses a female vice president that used to be a beauty queen. What does this say about McCain? Will he be another Clinton?'

 Robert Lincoln, USA :

'Gov. Palin won easily. She will help McCain put Washington back together, expose corruption, preserve life and our solid American traditions, and eliminate the lunatic left-wing madness permeating our government and our country. As usual, Biden told one lie after another, and immediate steps should be taken to remove him from office and excommunicate him from the Catholic Church. Obama is a complete disgrace to our country and to the world.'

Christa Lemons Keyser, USA:

'Unfortunately, I could only bear to watch 15 minutes of the debate. Sarah Palin's voice so un-nerved me that I could not concentrate on what she said. What little I was able to bear sounded very rehearsed and it seemed like she was reading cue cards. I know all the McCain-Palin administration will be is a continuance of the Bush administration. We need change not only in the White House but in areas too numerous to list here.'
