When faux intellectuals like William Plaff decry the ‘obvious impossibility’ of bringing democracy to the world – it’s their polite way of saying that the lesser sorts just can’t govern themselves. They used to say it openly about black people and South Asians, and then Arabs Now they just hide their racism behind complaints about America’s belligerent foreign policy.
