In the papers
France 24 journalists present a daily round-up of the international press
La Stampa (Italy)
Rightly so, according to editorialist Alberto Bisini who believes that the state of the education system in his country is tragic.
Universities are close to bankruptcy, both in terms of research and of actual teaching. And students are not guaranteed career opportunities.
Il Giornale (Italy)
It might be worth mentioning that Il Giornale is owned by Silvio Berlusconi’s brother. The newspaper interviewed a professor who is angry at the way things are going. He says he’s ashamed of his colleagues and finds their attitude simply scandalous. He believes none of the protesters have actually read the text put forward by the minister.
The Guardian (Britain)
The British paper has a cover picture of Congolese families fleeing the eastern part of the country. Their correspondent in Goma followed the Kondoli family and their story is frankly horrific. They had to escape an assault on the town they were living in and have been walking for the past three days. We're told: "The regular army has given up defending the road to the town and have fled en masse into the town". Residents fear the military order is collapsing and are terrified of rebel leader Nkunda’s men.
Libération (France)
Yves Bertrand was head of French intelligence for 12 years. Master of all French spies, he was scrupulous and wrote down everything. Now he's in trouble. President Sarkozy is suing him after information regarding his private life was released in the press along with extracts of Bertrand’s secret diaries. These diaries will be made available to judges next week.
The Irish Times (Ireland)
Every few weeks, the Ghost Hunt Ireland team takes groups to various sites, supposedly haunted. So the Irish newspaper sent a journalist on this very special tour. Though he was impressed by the equipment used to track down the ghosts, he remains skeptical. The CCTV cameras and the electromagnetic reading machines used did not produce clear cut results. The ghostbusters didn’t actually manage to set up their gear!
