“In this country you can be anything you wanna be if you work hard, you try hard and decide and determine that you want to do it," says Terry Daoud, chairman of a Ford dealership in Detroit. Terry - real name Tarik - emigrated from Iraq over fifty years ago to work in the auto industry. As did tens of thousands of Arabs at the time.

Many Muslims here used to be Republican. But Since September 11 they haven’t felt at home. Ali is 74 and for the first time ever he will vote Democrat. He will vote Barack Obama, like a majority of Arab Americans. Ali Dagher, a young and succesful attorney adds: “With an Obama administration we’re looking at changing the fundamental values and the way we think in this country, we will go from war mentality to an economic opportunity and economic growth and education mentality.”
