In the papers
France 24 journalists present a daily round-up of the international press.
Le Parisien / Aujourd'hui en France (France)
"Summit to get us out of crisis"
The French papers are dominated by the G20 Summit in Washington. There's a nice cartoon inside this daily showing French President Nicolas Sarkozy standing between US President Bush and President-elect Barack Obama. Sarkozy's saying "Don't worry, I'll sit in as Master of the World", a reference to the leading role France has played as holder of the EU presidency in formulating a response to the global financial crisis.
Libération (France)
"Reform of capitalism: Now or never"
The G20 also makes the front page of the French daily Libération. In its editorial, it says what is most significant is the participation of emerging economies such as Brazil and India, which come with their own agenda.
Le Figaro (France)
Socialist Party - Royal-Aubry clash
Le Figaro headlines on the impending tussle between former presidential candidate Ségolène Royal and Lille mayor Martine Aubry for the leadership of the opposition Socialist Party, which is meeting in the provincial capital Reims this weekend to choose a new leader.
The Guardian (United Kingdom)
"Love turns to loathing after Carla snubs Italy"
French First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy is no longer flavour of the year in Italy. She offended some in her place of birth by saying she's glad to be French, after Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi described US President-elect Obama as "suntanned".
Sydney Morning Herald (Australia)
"Astronaut shandy on tap in galaxy not far away"
The latest space shuttle mission is bringing a new toilet for the International Space Station. It will be connected to a system to recycle urine into drinking water.
