Rebels in the Democratic Republic of Congo launched attacks on government forces at the weekend in violation of their unilateral ceasefire, the UN's peacekeeping mission said Monday.

MONUC said in a statement that on Sunday, "the forces of the National Congress for the Defence of the People (CNDP) launched attacks and took control" of several small localities in eastern DR Congo, accusing the rebels of starting the fighting -- in contrast to rebel declarations.

Sunday's fighting near the town of Rwindi, around 100 kilometres (60 miles) north of Nord-Kivu provincial capital Goma, happened as rebel leader Laurent Nkunda held talks with the UN special envoy to the region, Olusegun Obasanjo.

"MONUC condemns these violations on the ground and invites the parties to respect the ceasefire so as not to further worsen the humanitarian situation," it said.

The rebels insist they have respected a ceasefire they declared on October 29 and that any clashes have come as a response to attacks by government forces.

Aid agencies are concerned that the continued fighting is making the plight of an estimated 250,000 displaced people in eastern Congo increasingly desperate.

Some wertern countries promised Rwanda more lands

Congolese have suffered incredibly and no one dares assist, despite the presence of the biggest UN Peace Keeping mission in Congo. Paul Kagame was promised more land by the US and UK for his growing population after having claimed that Kivu belonged to Rwanda and that due to bad European politics during the colonial period. Those who bought this idea are now using the same games played in Kosovo.
Plan 1: Congolese will be systematically reduced in eastern regions of Congo, at the same time the more Nkunda gains more territories, the more tutsis from neighboring countries will be brought in. Then they will call for a referendum once Tutsi becomes majority so as to be able to rule and later on the ever promised land ( tutsi land) will become reality.
But how reducing congolese can be possible without plunging the country in true genocide? (because 5m people killed so far cannot be called genocide). CNDP has adopted to rape as many Congolese women and young girls as possible for his massive destruction plan, and spread HIV/AIDS to Congolese women and young girls. They believe this is the only way the objective can be reached silently without too much attracting the attention of world leaders to intervene. That's why even Kagame said last September 2008, that even if Nkunda is killed, another Nkunda will appear. It simply means that no one can stop this war unless the Tutsi land has been conquered.

Plan 2. If Kunda cannot reach the above plan fails, and the congolese government manages to take back the territories under Nkunda's control, hundreds of thousand of tutsi present in Congo will be killed by their own brothers (part of CNDP), at the same time, tutsi will have opportunity to convince the world that they are always victims of genocide, segregation, xenophobia and will reclaim own land.

    Drama

To my opinion, Nkunda is just a smoke while the true fire are the Belgium and Bush admin! I don't see it elsewhere in the world the failure of the UN troops vis a vis an induvidual called "nkunda" and trying to a special convoy "X" to meet the rebel leader! What for? We have seen their games in the world, in zim and many other countries. If only nkunda was not serving the western interests, he would been taken to the ICP. And if Bemba is taken, why not Nkunda? Western politics is cruel! I personnaly don't peace in the eastern regions of the DRC if the western are not satisfied with the m3 of blood they really want Nkunda to shed!
It's so confusing the way some countries are dictating rules and regulations then claim that African learders are are dictators!

The violence that rocked the world
    Reached horrific levels resulting everywhere
With loss of children, women, and men for days
Burned in a church as they were seeking sanctuary
    And sanctuary was denied
In flames by mobs infuriated by votes.
The innocent victims faced their rage
Seeking help from locked doors and homes ending
As charred bodies and trash in the once silent streets
No water from kinfolks and no food from neighbors
With nothing gained to be sure.
Only we can save ourselves from this rage
