France 24's journalists bring you a round-up of what's in the international press
Ha’aretz (Israel)
Analysis: No other word than ‘pogrom’ for settler acts in Hebron
A tough headline that gives an idea of the antagonizing effect of Hebron’s hard-line Jewish settlers.
The article begins: “An innocent Palestinian family. (…) Surrounding them, a few dozen masked Jews seeking to lynch them. A pogrom. This isn't a play on words or a double meaning. It is a pogrom in the worst sense of the word.”
The article describes the scene as Jewish journalists witnessing the attack are forced to go in and save the family as police are busy elsewhere dispersing the rioters near the “House of contention”.
“Shame on you” reads the last line of this bitter piece.
Le Figaro (France)

Hebron, a religious and political symbol

San Francisco Chronicle (USA)
Hebron-birthplace of dueling religions

The daily explains the symbolism and history of Hebron, known for the tomb of a shared patriarch split between two religions….
The Chronicle gives a picture of every day life and the escalation of violence in a city where “the feud between Israelis and Palestinians is taken to its outer limits”…
The Province (Canada)
Column: End the madness
Column: End the madness
Despite elections a month and a half ago, the political turmoil continues with the parliaments’ postponement.
“The doomsday clock has been reset to give Canada another 52 days before the unsavory standoff resumes,” says the daily…. According to the Province, the crisis has lessons for everybody. “During the recess (…) calm must prevail”, fear mongering, hypocrisy and fabrications must stop, says the daily, asking politicians to change their attitude. But as a poll reveals almost ¾ of Canadians say they are “truly scared” for the future of the country.
The Independent (UK)
Happiness is contagious
Happiness is contagious
According to a scientific study the key to happiness could be just under our noses: in the shape of our neighbours. Happy neighbours give you a 34% higher chance of being happy yourself… Sadly, while proximity plays a central role in this positive ‘contagion’, by contrast living with a happy spouse only ups your chances of happiness by a mere 8%...
