Why did the Irish even bother to vote if it doesn't matter? They will continue to bring the issue to the ballot box until the Treaty is ratified and then cannot be easily undone by vote after vote. I am not against the Treaty, but this rewrapping of the same gift still leaves the Irish with the same present at their feet. If 53 percent can say no, this should be respected, but instead we play with it to reach that magical 50 percent +1, after which we announce the deal is done, after some strings are pulled to convince the Irish to vote yes. So much for transparency and increased democracy.
