Sarkozy: “Europe fascinated me”

Nicolas Sarkozy used his six months at the head of the EU to tackle economic, political and diplomatic issues. He ended France’s presidency at a summit in Brussels in December with three victories, albeit very last-minute ones.

France’s presidency of the EU finishes on December 31. For the last six months Nicolas Sarkozy has been fighting on all fronts. A Brussels summit on Dec.11 and Dec.12 saw him make one last push before he hands the presidency over to the Czech Republic on Jan. 1. European affairs “fascinated him”, he said during his final press conference, adding "I wish good luck to the Czech presidency!"
