The ongoing riots in Greece over the police shooting of a 15 year old are still all over the papers.

Libération (France)

Grèce Les Revoltes ('Greek revolts')

The paper paints a portait of an angry young generation with dramatic photographs and a four-page special on the story. According to testaments from Greek demonstrators these events were a catalyst, young people there are unsatisfied, the government is corrupt and unresponsive.

Aujourd'hui en France (France)

Nos reporters dans Athénes ('Our reporters in Athens')

Photos of demonstrations in Greece dominate the front page, but their leading article concerns talks today between French unions and Arcelor Mittal. Mittal is looking to cut 1,400 jobs here in France and the paper airs the views of critics of Mittal who say the company is using the financial crisis as an excuse to cut jobs in France. In 2006 Mittal promised to create 2000 jobs this year, not cut back. But those were promises made in a different economic climate, as illustrated by a story in the Chinese press.

China Daily (China)

Slow Down hurts China's scrap metal dealers

The global downturn has affected scrap dealers in China, with low demand and falling raw material prices. The paper talks to a metal dealer who has seen the metal he bought three months ago halve in value.

The Times Online (UK)

Leading Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo arrested over Freedom charter

Staying in China, Xiaobo organised a charter signed by hundreds of Chinese academics, thinkers and writers, calling for dramatic political and legal reforms in China. That charter was to be published today to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the declaration of human rights, but Liu Xiaobo was arrested at his home before he could see the charter released.

Le Parisien (France)

Kouchner sans langue de bois ('Kouchner talks frankly')

And on the theme of human rights…Paris' daily has an interview with French foreign minister and MSF (Médecins Sans Frontières) founder Bernard Kouchner, who says it’s unrealistic to direct foreign policy only on human rights. He says there is a permanent contradiction between human rights and the foreign policy of a state.
