Belgian PM proposes government resignation over Fortis scandal

Yves Leterme, Belgium's Prime Minister, has proposed the resignation of his entire government after the accusation of pressure on the justice system in the Fortis dismantle. The country's justice minister has already resigned.

REUTERS - Belgian Prime Minister Yves Leterme has proposed his government resign after a court found on Friday there were signs the government had sought to sway a ruling on stricken Fortis banking group, his spokesman said.

"The prime minister has proposed this. There is no decision taken," government spokesman Peter Poulussen said by telephone.
