'Zimbabwe is mine,' Mugabe tells ruling party
President Robert Mugabe told his ruling party's annual conference that "Zimbabwe is mine," adding that he was not intimidated by increasing calls for him to step down amid a raging cholera epidemic and runaway inflation.
AFP - President Robert Mugabe on Friday told his ruling ZANU-PF party that "Zimbabwe is mine", adding he would never surrender and that he was not intimidated by calls to step down.
"I will never, never, never never surrender. Zimbabwe is mine, I am a Zimbabwean. Zimbabwe for Zimbabweans. Zimbabwe never for the British, Britain for the British," Mugabe told his party's annual conference.
The veteran leader said he would remain until "his people decide to change him."
Mugabe also denounced Western governments who have been stepping up their criticism of his regime since the outbreak of cholera in the country, which according to UN figures has so far killed more than 1,100 people.
"What a pack of lies," he said, saying that Zimbabwe was facing a war with former colonial power Britain, supported by the United States and Europe.
"I won't be intimidated. Even if I am threatened with beheading, I believe this and nothing will ever move me from it: Zimbabwe belongs to us, not the British."
He also commented on deadlocked talks to form a unity government with Morgan Tsvangirai and his Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) and Arthur Mutambara, the leader of a smaller MDC splinter faction.
"I don't know whether this inclusive government is going to work or not. I have sent letters inviting the two so that I can swear them in," said Mugabe.
But he warned that they would wait in vain to see his regime collapse.
"My view is that those who run the MDC have given the MDC the impression that Zimbabwe is collapsing. 'Let it collapse and the leadership will vanish and you take over,'" he said.
"If they want to wait they can wait. That day will never come."

That`s not the right time to ask Mogabe to stepdown
It`s real not lowfull to ask president Mugabe to stepdown instead of helping him with cholera in the country.Western governments are known as felfish acting for their own interrests ,
TIRED OLD MAN
This speech cannot be taken seriously. We have an old fool sending out letters to invite people into a project he is not sure about its success. My foot. He is still waiting for 'his' people to tell him enough is enough. That happened and the same people were beaten to submission until he was the sole candidate in a sham election. Its obvious we have a dictator here and his removal will have to be by force if he does not die naturally. My advice to MDC is to ignore those letters and give him the rope he needs to tie himself. After all you have a majority in parliament. Morgan stay put in Bots we need you in one piece.
Hello Mugabe
I think Mugabe is the most stubborn leader in the world today. God only knows what would have happened if Mugabe headed the country in a better shape - countries like Iran may be!
That sends chills down my spine... he would have continued ruling the country for the rest of his life.. and may be keep it safe to be ruled by his sons and grandsons!
But with everything as it is in Zimbabwe, i dont think he will be able to keep the country going for more than a couple of years, at most.
