AU suspends Guinea's membership following coup
The African Union said it would temporarily suspend Guinea's membership "until the return of constitutional order" in the country, after a military junta seized power on Dec. 23 in a coup led by army officer Moussa Dadis Camara.

AFP - The African Union on Monday suspended Guinea after a military coup in the west African nation.

"The African Union decides to suspend the participation of Guinea in the activities of the African Union until the return of constitutional order in that country," the pan-African body said in a statement.

Moussa Dadis Camara and allies in the Guinea military seized power after the death of long-serving president Lansana Conte last week, but the move has been widely criticised.

oau ua suspends guinea

who cares

AU suspending Guinea

Guinea was a cesspool of political corruption for 25 years under Conte's dictatorship and the African Union, those defenders of African corruption and dictatorship, have reacted completely as expected--by suspending the reformers! Hey, African Union, when are you going to do ANYTHING about Zimbabwe, or Sudan, or Somalia, or......?

I commend the AU to have suspended Guinea's membership

AU has to be commended on the decision to suspend Guinea's membership following the military take over. We have been experiencing the underdevelopment in countries led by military officials. The military coup leaders in Guinea have, with no condition, to restore democracy. I, myself take this occasion to condemn Cpt Camara to have,in this 21rst century thought of organizing a such coup, especially during the mourning period. Longlive democracy and rule of law in the African nations.
