All Blacks superstar Dan Carter won the international fly-half battle with England's Andy Goode when he shrugged off an Achilles injury to help kick Perpignan to an 18-15 French Top 14 victory against Brive on Sunday.
Carter missed training on Friday because of the injury but passed a fitness test just before kick-off.
The New Zealander hit the target with four penalties from four attempts with full-back Jerome Porical adding a penalty and a first minute drop goal.
Goode kicked all of his side's points, but Carter starred with some searing breaks while the Englishman was guilty of a number of handling errors in the biting Brive cold.
On Saturday, Stade Francais ran in six tries in a 56-15 victory at home to Dax to stay second in the table behind Toulouse who beat Montpellier 34-0.
Dax went into the lead with the opening try but from then on it was tries galore for the Parisians and points from the boots of Argentinian star Juan Hernandez and French fly-half Lionel Beauxis.
Stade went in 23-10 at the break, with 15 points from Hernandez.
After the break, Stade let loose with Stephane Glas, Hernandez, Mathieu Bastareaud, Alexandre Albouy and South African-born centre Brian Liebenberg all touching down, adding to the first half try from Guillaume Bousses.
Stade backs coach Christophe Dominici, however, decided not to go overboard with praise for his team.
"The final score was very flattering for us although on the whole, particularly team spirit, was good," Dominici said.
"Our focus was not up to scratch for the first 10 minutes, but the players managed to get a grip from then on and play an organised match.
"But we made quite a few handling errors and opponents with a little more talent might have put us in more difficulty."
Clermont beat lowly Toulon 32-5 to keep up their hopes of a top four playoff spot, bottom club Mont-de-Marsan had a welcome 16-13 victory over Montauban and Bourgoin beat Biarritz 15-14.
Aubin Hueber, Toulon's assistant coach, was magnanimous to their conquerors which places his boss Tana Umaga in a difficult position as his side have failed to react positively to a recent consultation spell with South Africa's World Cup winning coach Jake White.
"We came up against an excellent Clermont team, who were more dominating and organised than us with leaders who made the difference such as (Fiji winger Napolioni) Nalaga (who scored four tries) who was magnificent. We would really like him in our team.!"
