For the first time ever, an international news channel has been given authorized access to the front line between Djibouti and Eritrea. In Mid-April 2008, Eritrea invaded the Ras Doumeira territory, a small piece of arid land and an islet strategically located at the entrance to the Red Sea. Despite backup from the French Army, Djibouti was forced to draw back while its enemy enforced its position with trenches. Since then it’s been a long wait in harsh conditions for the troops but officially the morale is good.
At the beginning of the conflict, the French Army - which maintains important military headquarters - provided various services to Djibouti: especially medical and intelligence services. It also played a dissuasive role which limited the Eritrean incursion. But the French soldiers who used to live in this camp have now been replaced by Djibouti armed forces. Despite the apparent calm, the Djibouti Army claims to be on maximum alert since December 15. Eritrea has asked Djibouti to hand in all deserters caught on its soil. If Djibouti doesn’t cooperate Asmara threatens to attack.

warmongering eritrean attitude
What about the African Union? Igad? Arab League? UN? are they all against you. We dont need ur "brotherhood" my friend just leave us alone. Stop seeing conspiracy theories everywhere and retreat to your bases. Eritrea fought with all its neighbors and surprisingly want more bloodshed. Djibouti will always seek peace and it is unfortunate to say this to a brother but know this eritrea, we will get back our land by any means necessary.
east africa say france stop being bias leave africa alone
France 24 we should be ashamed of your French government what the are your bases still doing in Africa please tell me. After the Second World War all the European countries left the African countries gave them their freedom which they once controlled but France didn’t want to give up its spoils instead it created a defence pact in the country called dijubito . This war between Eritrea and Djibouti is not new it was created by France and Italy
Disagreement over this boundary section led to similar incidents in 1996 and 1998. The Djibouti-Eritrea boundary was first delimited in a 1900 Franco-Italian treaty. The northeast section was defined from the northernmost tip of Ras Doumeira on the Red Sea coast, through the watershed along the peninsula for approximately 1.5 km and then along a straight line towards the southwest to Bissidiro on the banks of Oued Weima. Unless undertaken recently, this boundary section has never been demarcated officially on the ground. The exact position of the land boundary terminus at Ras Doumeira would be critical when the two states come to negotiate their maritime boundary in the Red Sea.
The status of Doumeira island, located just off shore from Ras Doumeira, also remains in question. The 1900 treaty specified that until France and Italy could decide by agreement who held sovereignty over the island, it would remain effectively held under joint sovereignty by both states and neither side would attempt any sovereign acts. The two colonial powers signed an agreement in January 1935 that would have adjusted the northeast land boundary section and allocated Doumeira island to Italian-ruled Eritrea. However, the agreement was never ratified by France and it is presumed that the 1900 treaty still applies.
France very murky history with Africa but I’m sure people can Google it up and you as a French news website now it and that’s why you lost out on the Olympic games cause of your murky history in Africa.

Be Calm Our djibouti brothers!!!
Djibouti and Eritrea has much more income than any external powers. The government of Djibouti does not need to choose to serve greedy blood thirsty powers hungers like woyane. Any nation must serve for its own people rather than to serve as messengers of gossips. This people has blessed to live as fraternal neghibours.Eritrea will over come all odds.
Stop propagating war
Djiboutian commanders seem ready to fight but their soldiers are dragging their feet?!
The moral of the commanders seems 100%. But are they the once who fight the real fight?????????
where are the foot soldiers by the way no one interviewed ... in this case the reporter did a lousy job of reporting (propagating war).
Djiboutian Soldiers refused to fight
Djiboutian Soldiers refused to fight.
Djiboutian soldiers According to information gathered by the letter of the Indian Ocean, the commander Ali Hamid, based in the north, was returned to the capital after refusing to participate in a mission that was to dislodge the rebel faction Army of the Front for the Restoration of Unity and Democracy (FRUD) in the mountainous area of Ali Moussa, in the extreme north of the country along the border with Eritrea.Meanwhile, some military issas / fourlaba dragging their feet to go defy Eritrea, as has undertaken to do the President Ismail Omar Guelleh (issa / mamassan). Thus, a commander of the barracks of Obock, Said Wallis, is being held in prison for refusing Gabode obedience. These soldiers are aware of the superiority of the capabilities of the Eritrean army whose soldiers have delivered several wars in recent years. Moreover, the conflict between the president IOG to his former friend, businessman Abdurahman Boreh (Act No. 1251), could eventually enter the loyalty to the Head of State of certain military issas / odahgob, the same Boreh that clan, which predominate in the military.
The presidential couple fears that Eritrea not to bolster the Djiboutian Afar rebels and increases their potential for action. If that were the case, the malaise spread within the Djibouti army and the temptation would be great for the president IOG to seek alternatives defense.
Already, in order to be positioned north of Obock on the border with Eritrea, Ethiopia Issas are being recruited, especially among refugees in the region Dikhil, fed by the Food Program (WFP). However, the vast majority of these refugees will not respond to these demands.
The first lady Kadra Mahamoud Haid, would have it tried to recruit Issak / Habar Awal from Hargeisa (Somaliland) through wealthy traders of Djiboutian original Issak. But so far, few have been baited.

Failed attempt at trying to destabilize Eritrea
Eritrea is the most stable nation in the region and since the neo-cons are losing the war in the horn of Africa they will cook up a new "FAKE WAR" against Eritrea and create un-neccesary "FAKE WAR". The use of France 24 and other media outlets to destbilize nations will no longer work in this information technology age. So France 24 stop spreading propoganda instead "show us the pudding! France 24 if you are a true news organization and claim to have an exclusive on the Djibouti side, where are the Eritrean deserters you claim?
Stop spreading false rumors.
