Sole remaining petrol station blocked as general strike drags on

Access to the sole petrol station remaining open in Guadeloupe has been blocked by protestors. Friday marks the 18th day of strikes that have crippled the island.

FRANCE 24 with wires - The sole petrol station remaining open during Guadeoupe's general strikes, located in the industrial zone of Jarry, in the Mahault Bayr region,  was blocked by protestors Friday.

 

Other stations on the island have been blocked since Thursday. "They will remain closed as long as is necessary," said the leader of a local firefighter's union.

 

Schools also rempain closed, and port activity interrupted.
