Chapter 7: Genoa, the art of speculation (1560-1620)
In the 16th century, Genoa ruled the trading of goods across the Mediterranean. But the growing influence of the Atlantic countries on trade eventually began to threaten the major economic role of the small republic.
On FRANCE 24, Jacques Attali presents 15 episodes of 'Lessons for the Future'. Airing Tuesdays at 6:55 pm and Mondays at 6:10 pm Paris time (GMT +1), in Arabic, the programme takes the form of three-minute “chapters” that trace 2,000 years of economic history. The programme is inspired by Attali’s best-seller 'Lessons for the Future' ('Leçons pour l’avenir', Fayard 2006).
