Gaz de France goes before a correctional tribunal in the French industrial city of Mulhouse (in the Haut-Rhin region) on Monday to face charges in connection with a gas leak that occurred in December 2004. The leak led to the explosion of a building, killing 19 and injuring 13.

The gas supplier, who has since joined the GDF Suez company, is being charged with “unpremeditated homicides and injuries” and for ‘the destruction and deterioration of property”, for the damage that occurred inside the four-story housing project on Rue de la Martre.

In an interview which appeared in the Sunday edition of a local Alsatian paper, Jean-François Cirelli, current VP of GDF Suez and the head of GDF at the time of the incident, took responsibility on behalf of his company for the explosion.
