Loeb retains lead, Hirvonen moves into second
France's title-holder Sebastien Loeb on Citroen (pictured) still holds the lead in the standings after the second day of the Cyprus rally. Finland's second-placed Mikko Hirvonen (Ford) lies nearly 50 seconds behind.

AFP - Five-time world champion Sebastien Loeb kept his campaign for a 50th career world championship victory on target by retaining the lead after the second day of the Rally of Cyprus here.

Loeb, in his Citroen C4, continued his dominant form over Friday's six asphalt stages on the five gravel specials on Saturday.

Ford Focus driver Mikko Hirvonen moved into second, 49.8sec off Loeb's pace.

The team was unable to repair the damaged car and Solberg will try to restart as a SuperRally entrant on Saturday, organisers said.

"We should be able to SuperRally tomorrow, but there is no chance of a good result now -- I can't take five minutes out of everybody on every stage tomorrow," Norwegian Solberg was quoted as saying on the WRC's website (www.wrc.com).
