The Times Online publishes a photograph of a little girl in Northern Ireland praying for peace following the murders of two British soldiers and a police officer last week.

“The Troubles are past but that doesn't keep the fear at bay now”

According to the Guardian’s Sunday edition Northern Ireland’s troubles are in the past, but this doesn’t mean citizens are not concerned.  A reporter piece from Northern Ireland explains that while Republican ideals are still present here, even local Sinn Fein activists are shocked and dismayed by the bloody events of last week.  According to the article, Northern Ireland cannot return to its violent past and must concentrate on issues such as jobs, housing, and education.

“Diskin and Dekel fly to Cairo for decisive talks on Schalit”

It’s “make or break” time for Israel as the Jewish state sends a special envoy to Cairo for Egyptian-mediated prisoner swap talks with Hamas.  Agreement is expected to be reached by the end of the day, ahead of a special cabinet meeting during which Israeli ministers will vote on whether to approve the plans. Israel hopes to clinch a deal which would lead to the release of captured soldier Gilad Schalit. According to The Jerusalem Post, as many as 450 Palestinian prisoners could be freed in return. Hamas has denied a deal is taking place.

Aujourd’hui en France is among the French papers to pay tribute to singer-songwriter Alain Bashung, who died at the age of 61 in a Parisian hospital on Saturday.  He’d been battling lung cancer for two years.  The newspaper features numerous photos of the star – including recent pictures taken at the annual French music awards, where he picked up three awards for his contributions to music.

“‘Liquid eggs’ for people too lazy to crack”

British farmers have created liquid eggs for those too lazy to crack their own! Due to be available in free-range and non-free range cartons, they hope the country’s supermarkets will support the product after its launch in London this week.
