On Tuesday, the court resumed viewing excerpts of his daughter Elisabeth’s pre-recorded testimony about her harrowing experience.

“The videos seem quite unbearable,” said FRANCE 24’s special correspondent Philomé Robert, who added that the court has called in four extra jurors in case one of the main jury members feels uneasy or finds it difficult to view Elisabeth Fritzl’s testimony.

The 73-year-old finally showed his face to photographers as he was led back to the court after the lunch recess.

Fritzl faced further questioning over his daughter’s video testimony.

Eleven hours of taped testimony will be shown in small segments throughout the week-long trial.

No other witnesses are expected in court on Tuesday as the victim’s siblings and children declined to testify.

Proceedings are being held closed to the public and the media to protect the victims' identities.

The 73-year-old Austrian is accused of locking up and raping his daughter, Elisabeth, in his family home’s underground bunker for 24 years, fathering her seven children. He is being charged with murder for the death of one of the babies in 1996.

Friztl pleaded guilty to incest, rape and sequestration on the opening day of the trial,  but denied charges of murder and enslavement.
