France makes six changes for Italy clash

Latest update : 2009-03-18

France coach Marc Lievremont has made six changes to Les Bleus' lineup for the season-ending Six Nations game against Italy in Rome on Saturday. Frederic Michalak will be among the replacements.

AFP - France coach Marc Lievremont on Wednesday announced six changes in his starting lineup, two of them positional, for the season-ending Six Nations game against Italy in Rome on Saturday.

That follows the 34-10 hammering the French took at Twickenham against England last weekend that ended their hopes of capturing the European rugby union crown.

Back at full-back comes Damien Traille of Biarritz with Maxime Medard moving to the wing where he replaces Julien Malzieu who is relegated to the bench.

Florian Fritz comes in at centre taking over from Mathieu Basteraud and making it an all-Toulouse back division from 11 to 14.

In the pack, Julien Bonnaire moves up from the bench to play flanker in place of Sebastien Chabal who one again switches to lock replacing Jerome Thion alongside skipper Lionel Nallet.

In the front row Fabien Barcella of Biarritz gets a starting spot ahead of Lionel Faure who drops down to the bench.

Late callup to the squad half-back Frederic Michalak remains on the bench but can expect to make his return to the international stage during the second half against the winless Italians.

The France team named on Wednesday to play Italy in the Six Nations tournament in Rome on Saturday:

Damien Traille (Biarritz); Maxime Medard (Toulouse), Florian Fritz (Toulouse), Yannick Jauzion (Toulouse), Cedric Heymans (Toulouse); Francois Trinh-Duc (Montpellier), Morgan Parra (Bourgoin); Imanol Harinordoquy (Biarritz), Julien Bonnaire (Clermont), Thierry Dusautoir (Toulouse); Sebastien Chabal (Sale/ENG), Lionel Nallet (Castres, capt); Sylvain Marconnet (Stade Francais), Dimitri Szarzewski (Stade Francais), Fabien Barcella (Biarritz)
