Didier Lombard, Chairman and CEO, France Telecom
Didier Lombard, CEO of French telecommunications giant France Telecom, explains the situation in the French market and the competition his company faces on FRANCE 24's Business Interview with Raphael Kahane.

As cellphone maker Nokia announced a new round of job cuts this week, the world market leader made no mystery of the extent to which the recession is affecting the entire telecommunications sector.

Neither mobile data nor mobile advertising have yet been able to make up for the decline in revenue form traditional voice calls.

So where lies the future of telecoms operators and equipment makers ?

France Telecom, the French incumbent operator, has been seen as an example of what former state-owned monopolies can achieve in terms of diversifying both their customer base and their business models.

Operating in the global market under the brand name of Orange, it has become one of the world's leading telco and TV operators.

Raphael Kahane talked to France Telecom's chairman and chief executive officer, Didier Lombard.
