Hoarau earns France call after Anelka injury

Latest update : 2009-03-24

Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka has had to pull out of France's World Cup qualifier against Lithuania at the weekend after injuring a toe. He makes way for Paris Saint Germain forward Guillaume Hoarau (photo).

REUTERS - Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka will be out of action for three weeks after injuring a toe, the French Football Federation (FFF) said on Monday.

France coach Raymond Domenech called up Paris St Germain's Guillaume Hoarau for the first time to take Anelka's place in his squad.

"(Hoarau) replaces Nicolas Anelka, who is suffering from an injured left big toe and is out of action for three weeks," the FFF said on their website.

His injury has been assessed by the France medical team.

France visit Lithuania on Saturday before hosting the Baltic team four days later in World Cup qualifying Group Seven.

Hoarau, 25, has scored 15 goals in Ligue 1 this season.
