Jean-Marie Le Pen, leader of France’s far-right Front National, has once again caused outrage by saying the Nazi gas chambers were “a mere detail in the history of the Second World War”.

This time he repeated the assertion – almost verbatim – in the European Parliament itself, to howls of derision from his fellow MEPs.

The repetition follows a scandal at the possibility that, if elected, he would chair the parliament’s inaugural session – by default – because he is the oldest MEP.

French far-right leader Jean-Marie Le Pen’s controversial statement to the European Parliament.
Because of European Parliamentary rules, as the “doyen”,  or oldest, MEP, Le Pen would have the privilege of chairing the first session of Parliament.

Le Pen apparently flew off the handle after Martin Schultz , leader of the Socialists parliamentary group, made “defamatory accusations” against him.

Schultz, with support from Europe’s Greens, put pressure on the Parliament to find any way possible to stop their nemesis from taking centre stage.

Schultz said he was outraged “that a Holocaust denier should preside over the European Parliament’s inaugural session”. He added that Le Pen was an “ageing fascist”.

The scandal comes just months before the European legislative elections – in which Le Pen is expected to win a renewal of his mandate as an MEP.

“An obsessive madman and Holocaust denier"

Daniel Cohn-Bendit, a German Green Party MEP, told FRANCE 24 that Le Pen is “an obsessive madman and Holocaust denier. When he wants to gorge himself on anti-Semitism, he does just that. He seems to be doing everything possible to stop himself from getting elected.”

Cohn-Bendit recognised, however, that MEPs enjoy parliamentary immunity – and that as an elected member his right to express himself should not be limited, as “it would undermine the fundamental liberties of the peoples’ representatives”.

Le Pen was fully aware that he was enjoying parliamentary immunity.

But if he is trying to raise his public profile, it comes at a desperate time for his party, which is haemorrhaging support. It has been abandoned by much of its membership and is in financial dire straits.

The gas chambers issue is a favourite bone of contention which Le Pen likes to dig up from time to time. He made the infamous comments first in 1987 and repeated them again ten years later. He was fined 183,000 euros by a French court.

"6 Million"

You can ask ANY American "How many jews died during wwII"? They will reflexively answer "6 Million". Ask them how many other people died and they won't have a clue.

Holocaust

Hundreds of thousands of Native Americans were starved, worked to death or attacked and murdered in their homes and their survivors forced onto 'reservations' by the US government. In fact, this is where Hitler got the idea for his camps. Nobody ever says a word about the fate of the American Indians and in fact what happened to them is mocked in films. Yet no one really seems to deny it, either. Let this fellow say, think, write or believe whatever he wants.

Fabulous-Gas Act

A better title for this anti-free speech French Law would be "The Fabulous-Gas Act." However, LePen is wrong in saying the Arshwitz gas chamber story is a mere detail. It is in fact a complete lie, a vicious anti-Gentile blood liberl.

'Holocaust' Obsession indicates mental ill health?

Obsessing over the plight of the Ashkenazi tribe, descendants of the Turkic Khazars, is surely an indicator of our cultural and social ill-health. Holocaustianity believers!

About 1.4 million German soldiers, who had surrendered to American forces following the surrender of the Nazi German regime, were herded into open fields just a 100 metres or so, from the River Rhine, and allowed to starve to death on the explicit order of "God, I hate the Germans" General Dwight Eisenhower; in complete contravention of the Geneva Convention!

This story has only recently come to light and has been attested by several former US Army soldiers, who once guarded its sprawling, barbed-wired perimeter. This is not a conspiracy theory. I urge all readers to do the research. Try this book, which you can review at Amazon.com: James Bacque, "Other Losses: An investigation into the mass deaths of German prisoners at the hands of the French and Americans after World War II" (Toronto: Stoddart, 1989).

People's Republic of France

France has thought crime laws just like the People's Republic of North Korea . France should be ashamed for enacting laws such as Fabious-Gaysott .

People's Republic of France

France has become a country similair to The People's Republic of North Korea. Both have laws which outlaw freedom of speech . Fabious-Gaysott brings France into the dark ages much like North Korea .

Jean Marie Le Pen

If we do not force people to believe in Christianity, why should we force people to believe in the "gas chamber" story ? After all , the president of Iran was goaded by Blair to go to the camps and see for himself: Ahmadinejad said he would go and bring a team of scientists with him but the authoirtes at Auschwitz issued a warning that anyone suspected of questioning the "story" will be denied entrance ! So much for "truth" in a liberal democracy !

Holocaust

I would not call it a detail. The Jews suffered horribly in WW II. But I sympathize with his viewpoint. Russians , Germans, Poles and many others suffered horribly also. Millions of German civilians were deliberately murdered by the allies but Germany's former enemies don't regret what they did one bit. 2 million German women were raped (many gang raped) and then many murdered when the soldiers were thru raping them.

If someone disagrees with the standard story of what happened to Jews during the war he is degraded, humiliated, jailed and then bankrupted. This is not democracy.

France didn't have it so bad in the occupation. Germany could have let Paris be destroyed like the allies did to all of Germany's beautiful cities.

personal attacks

Seeing how the parlamentarians treat each other, I am not surprised that there are wars in the world.

French Politics

I love French politics.

Il est fou

Cet homme là !

Le pen

Stalin killed 30 million of his own people. Mao killed 70 million of his own but noone ever talks about all these deaths. Are these just details or an even bigger Holocaust. No race should have an manopoley on suffering.
