Israel blows up Palestinian fishing boat

The Israeli navy opened fire on a Palestinian fishing boat, suspected of being filled with explosives, off the coast of the Gaza Strip on Monday. No casualties were reported after the explosion.

AFP - The Israeli navy on Monday blew up a fishing boat filled with explosives off the coast of Hamas-run Gaza, but no casualties were reported, the army said.

"One of our boats opened fire on a Palestinian fishing boat at sea off the coast of Gaza City and, as it was filled with explosives, it exploded," an army spokewoman said. "There was no-one aboard."

Palestinian witnesses confirmed that an explosion occurred on a boat off the coast of the impoverished Palestinian territory, but that there were no casualties.
