Russia's Safina tops world rankings

Russia's Dinara Safina has, for the first time in her career, arrived at the top of tennis WTA rankings. She is nearly 700 points ahead of US player Serena Williams.

AFP - Russia's Dinara Safina, who has never won a grand slam, on Monday took over the number one spot in the WTA rankings from Serena Williams.
  
In the latest standings the 22-year-old Safina moves up to 8951 points, with Williams in second on 8272.
  
The biggest mover in the women's charts was Slovakia's Dominika Cibulkova, who went from 19th to 17th on the back of her quarter-final appearance at Charleston.
