Once again, the UK relies on France to do what it was supposed to do. it is rather sad to see Gordon Brown to have such a poor ability to defend our borders. But then again, the problem is he was dropped into Number 10 when Tony Blair resigned, rather tactfully to stop himself being blamed for all of this and dump it on the Chancellor. So Blair knew what he was doing, and Brown just mumbles along. My opinion, get on with the next election

Until such time as the UK loses its reputation for being the planet's softest touch the French channel ports will continue to be a magnet for the illegal immigrants. This unfortunate effect of the UK's inability to control and police its own borders is not helped by those charities who actively help these people waiting to find a way to the UK. Whereas it is hard to ignore their plight, perhaps it would be kinder not to help them because France might be attracting a similar soft touch reputation amongst the SPs.
The sooner the UK makes it very clear that illegal immigration will attract zero tolerance, this problem for France will continue. Pressure the UK and the EU's porous borders instead of or as well as the illegals to stop this problem.
This is typical of French political propoganda nonsense. "we kloze caemps, iz illegal refüge" blar blar. Who are they kidding. I really do not want hear this nonsense about how they care about the people in Calais, they will not allow a humanitarian crisis etc.. Well the obvious question would be: Why did you let it get this far?
French authorities needs to do their jobs properly and deal with illegal immigrants they aprehend according to the UNHCR guidelines and not just drive them 30-40 miles away from Calais and hope for the best. I know how it works over in UK when police finds an illegal person.
As for my ignorant fellow citizen from Birmingham; if it was not for the cheap labour, you would be moaning about prices...! Also, Home Office Asylum interviews are just a joke, the case workers don't have the knowledge to do the job.
If everyone did their job properly all would be OK !
