Ibrahimovic, Inter's top striker, looking to 'try something new'

Video by FRANCE 24

Latest update : 2009-04-28

Inter Milan's coach, Jose Mourinho, denied that Zlatan Ibrahimovic wants to leave the Serie A leaders. Earlier the club's top scorer had said that he was looking for a new football challenge, but Mourinho says he was referring to the long term.

REUTERS - Inter Milan coach Jose Mourinho has denied media speculation that top scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic wants to leave the Serie A leaders.

The striker, who has scored 20 league goals this season to help put Inter 10 points clear with six games to go, said in an interview this week that he wanted to "try something new" and expressed admiration for the Spanish top flight.

Barcelona and Real Madrid have been linked in the media with a move for the Swede, who also expressed frustration at Inter flopping again in the Champions League when they lost to Manchester United in the last 16 in March.

Mourinho said the 27-year-old was just talking about his long-term ambitions.

"Ibrahimovic said he's happy at Inter but that one day he'd like to play football in another country. This seems absolutely normal to me. I don't see a drama," the Portuguese coach told a news conference on Saturday.

"They are the words of someone who does not want to give the impression that he wants to stay at the same club all his life.

Mourinho recently said he was confident Ibrahimovic will stay because no one would be willing to fork out the huge sums needed to lure him away from the Italian champions.
